Text description provided by the architects. In an ingenious way – the introduction of a ‘light street’ – this renovation project adds new life, light and space to this deep and dark former offi ce building. This indoor street is the walkway for all reception functions, as well as the supporting element of this energetic concept.
Today, it seems irresponsible to not build in a sustainable way. In the use of materials, heating and insulation, this building has been designed following the principles of sustainable building. For example, the new shell – the wooden facade – is adaptable in function of energy and light.
Also, a project is only a good project if it is spatially embedded in its surroundings. The location just outside the city centre was a challenge for the urban planners. The urban development concept starts from the idea of a fordable campus with three zones: a zone for culture, sports and administration. The way in which the indoor street of the building links up with the existing infrastructure also adds substantial value to this site. Both the commune’s services and the OCMW will be housed in this new building of 5000 m².
